Kylie :-), I loved your presentation. You did an awesome job carrying out the older theme throughout your presentation. The wood with the old paper looked really good and it reinforced the time periods that you talked about within your novel. You did a really good job connecting your poem to your novel, the comparisons that you made were scholarly and it was a good poem choice. I really liked the picture that you had on slide 3, along with the comment of comparing the right and the left side of the tree. It was an interesting perspective and it really made me see something beyond surface level in a picture. You looked very professional for your presentation and you didn't seem nervous at all -- all the hard work you have put into this project definitely paid off. It was a great presentation. Also, I was honored to be your clicker.
I usually do not tend to go for older writing so it was great to learn about it from you in your great presentation. I think that the design of your presentation was very representative of the theme that your novel dealt with, aside from being aesthetically pleasing. You did a great job of breaking up the presentation, which by nature is word based, with the pictures that you used to explain the city versus rural and the Gothic versus Victorian ideas. I also learned a lot about the different types of imagery such as Gothic and Pastel and overall, the literary devices you talked of were ones I was not as familiar with so I learned a lot from your presentation. Overall, great job! I can tell you put a lot of work into this project as older writings are harder to read, even in their language (at least for me). Props to you!
The discussion of the gothic and victorian era writing was very in depth, and I love the parallel you drew between the struggles of the writings in the time period against the characters in the novel. You incorporated everything from settings, to the mental state of your characters in your analysis. All of this tied in with your analysis of imagery from storms and even gothic and pastel imagery. Very well done Kylie, as always.
Hi Kylie! I think having your presentation’s background being a piece of paper stuck on a board fit your theme quite well. I think adding the greater trend of romanticism helped give your paper more dimension. You also had a great attention to the historical background of the author and the times she grew up in. I also really liked your choice of poem- Poe is one of the greatest American writers and we really don’t read him much. Talking about the pathetic fallacy was also quite interesting: it is a device we’ve never worked with, at least by name. Overall, I could tell you worked hard and it came out solid.
Hey Kylie! I really enjoyed the rustic feel you gave to your presentation. It was interesting to hear about the work of another Bronte sister, as I know a majority of us read Jane Eyre in freshman English. I admire you for tackling Wuthering Heights; I have always thought of it as a classic but never gotten around to reading it. It was interesting to hear you delve into the Victorian time period and the social acceptances in the Gothic Era that Bronte refuted. I thought it was also impressive that you chose an Edgar Allan Poe poem because many of the authors that we tackled were unfamiliar but you looked at two very popular writers and attempted to tackle their style and uncover their themes, and I enjoyed listening and learning from you! Great job!
I thought you did an awesome job portraying the style/era of your novel consistently throughout the presentation. For example, the image included in your PowerPoint portrayed a mountain with one side bright and cheery with rolling green hills, whereas the other side looked darker and more rocky. This was a perfect representation of switching from the Victorian Era to the Gothic Era. I also thought the poem you chose to relate to Wuthering Heights, “Alone” by Edgar Allen Poe, was a very good choice because yiu did a very nice job comparing them to each other by pulling lines that were similar into the PowerPoint, showing the melancholy tones and Gothic imagery and how they were similar. Great job!
