Blog #4: Research Paper and Final Outline

  1. Hi Kylie - as you already know, Wuthering Heights is one of my favorite novels and when I heard that you were going to study Emily Bronte for this project, I grew excited to see how you analyzed WH in your presentation. I have to say, I had high expectations for you project - I’m a bit of a Bronte snob - but you far exceeded all of them. To me, one of the most important elements to analyze in WH is the antithesis of Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, as setting plays such a vital role to the development to Heathcliff’s and Catherine’s characters and their love affair. Your discussion of these notions, Bronte’s Gothic symbolism, and the “rustic English moors” crafted a very accessible and clear message that was presented very well. I also had the chance to run through your prose multiple-choice questions, and I thought that you formed these very well and did a good job of creating questions that are dependent only upon knowledge gained from reading the passage - this is often hard once you’ve studied a text in depth. Overall, very nicely done.
